I recently listened to a BBC Radio 4 late evening news broadcast. The interviewer was a woman and she talked to two women. I was surprised to hear so much ‘modern’ English in their exchanges. Here are some of the things I heard –
wiggle room / an up tick / a backlog of issues / leveling up / an uplift / down the line / to partner up / to be best pleased / a step change / a pension dashboard. I really wonder where the English language is going when I hear such things.
